Some of the recently completed projects implemented by both Lake Victoria North and Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency in our area of jurisdiction are as follows:
The project was funded by the World Bank under the Water and Sanitation Services Improvement project-additional financing (WaSSIP-AF). It involved construction of new treatment works of capacity 2,000m3/day for the upstream community at Naiberi as well as rehabilitation and expansion of the dilapidated Kapsoya Treatment Works to increase it to a capacity of 7,000m3/day. The project, which cost KES 625 Million, was completed in 2018 and handed over to Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS). It has helped the company reduce rationing hours within Eldoret Town. The project will serve an ultimate population of about 50,000 persons.
The projects were financed by the Government of Kenya at a cost of KES 230 Million and involved construction of a water supply from a spring source through spring protection, laying of rising main, elevated storage tank, distribution lines and water kiosks. It also involved excavation of a water pan of capacity 140,000m3 complete with related works. The projects serve an estimated population of 5,000 people.
The project was financed by the world ban under additional funding (WaSSIP-AF) and involved construction of a new water supply of capacity 900m3/day complete with treatment works, distribution system and storage tanks for the indigenous population of Sengwer in Marakwet West Sub County in Elgeyo Marakwet County. The project cost was KES 117 Million and was completed in 2018 and handed over to the Elgeyo Marakwet County Government. The project serves a population of 10,000 people.
The project was jointly financed by the Government of Kenya and the Republic of Belgium at a cost of KES 1.5 Billion. It involved construction of a water supply system of capacity 4,280 m3/day to serve an ultimate population of 64,000 people. It is gravity scheme that replaced the expensive pumping from Yokot dam. The works were completed and handed over to Iten-Tambach Water and Sanitation Company (ITWASCO) for operation and maintenance.
